Email Marketing Strategist

The Line | Contract / Freelance | Remote

The Role

We're looking for someone who can think beyond simply sending emails.

The Email Marketing Strategist will own the strategy, planning and optimization of The Line's email marketing program, balancing brand storytelling with strong business acumen.

You'll work closely with the founder to translate product launches, seasonal moments, customer behavior and business priorities into a thoughtful email calendar and customer journey.

This role is ideal for someone who understands e-commerce, has a strong eye for premium brand storytelling and knows how to use email to drive both customer retention and revenue.

What You'll Own

Email Strategy & Planning

  • Develop a monthly and quarterly email marketing strategy aligned with product launches, seasonal moments and business priorities
  • Build and maintain the email marketing calendar
  • Determine appropriate campaign frequency and segmentation rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all send strategy
  • Identify opportunities to increase repeat purchase rate, retention and customer lifetime value

Campaigns

  • Develop campaign concepts, messaging angles, subject lines and preview text
  • Write or provide strategic direction for email copy
  • Create thoughtful segmentation strategies based on customer behavior, purchase history, engagement and lifecycle stage
  • Coordinate campaigns around new product launches, restocks, evergreen products, promotions and key seasonal moments
  • Balance revenue-driving emails with editorial, educational and brand-building content

Flows & Customer Journey

  • Audit and optimize existing automated flows
  • Identify opportunities for new lifecycle automations
  • Develop and continuously improve flows including:
    • Welcome
    • Abandoned cart
    • Browse abandonment
    • Post-purchase
    • Cross-sell and replenishment
    • Win-back
    • VIP / high-value customer
  • Build journeys that feel personal and intentional rather than overly promotional

Testing & Optimization

  • Develop an ongoing testing roadmap across subject lines, creative, messaging, offers, send times, frequency and segmentation
  • Monitor deliverability and list health
  • Analyze campaign and flow performance
  • Provide clear monthly reporting and recommendations
  • Use performance insights to continuously evolve the strategy

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of email marketing experience, ideally with a DTC or e-commerce brand
  • Strong experience with Klaviyo
  • Proven experience developing both campaign and lifecycle/flow strategies
  • Strong understanding of segmentation, retention and customer lifecycle marketing
  • Comfortable using data to make decisions while maintaining a strong brand point of view
  • Excellent copywriting and communication skills
  • Strong understanding of premium, design-led or female-focused consumer brands
  • Highly organized and comfortable independently managing an email calendar
  • Able to take ownership of the channel while collaborating closely with a founder

What Success Looks Like

We're not looking to simply increase the number of emails we send.

Success means building an email program that customers genuinely want to receive while increasing the contribution email makes to the overall business.

Over time, we'd expect to see stronger engagement, increased repeat purchases, healthier segmentation, higher-performing automated flows and a clear, strategic role for email within The Line's broader marketing ecosystem.

This is a freelance/contract position with the opportunity to develop into an ongoing partnership.

We're looking for someone who can act as an extension of The Line rather than simply execute a predetermined calendar. The right person will bring ideas, challenge assumptions, identify opportunities and help shape the future of our retention strategy.
